Silksong Release Date Has Already Prompted Multiple Game Delays

At least three game launches are getting out of the way of Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Get ready, gamers! The release of Hollow Knight: Silksong has sent shockwaves through the gaming community, causing a ripple effect that has led multiple game developers to rethink their launch dates. With the long-awaited title finally hitting the shelves on September 4, 2025, the hype is real, and it’s affecting the competition in a big way.

As excitement builds for Silksong, developers from at least three different studios have opted to delay their upcoming releases to avoid going head-to-head with this highly anticipated sequel. One such developer, Panik Arcade, recently announced that their roguelike game, CloverPit, will now launch on September 26, 2025, pushing back from its original date of September 3.

“Silksong is the most anticipated and wishlisted game on all of Steam, and we think people will love this game and play it right at launch (including us), but that also means it will overshadow all games launching close to it. So if we stick to our original date, we would risk the launch of CloverPit a fair bit,”

Recognizing the overwhelming excitement surrounding Silksong, Panik Arcade made the tough call to push back CloverPit‘s release date, wanting to give their game the best chance to shine. They’re using the extra time to polish the game and ensure it meets players’ expectations.

But CloverPit isn’t the only game feeling the heat from Silksong. The team behind Faeland, an adventure RPG that draws inspiration from the beloved 8-bit classics, also decided to delay their 1.0 launch, which was initially set for September 9, 2025. The developers shared their heartfelt decision:

“We’ve made the tough call to postpone the 1.0 release of Faeland, which is currently available in Steam Early Access. This wasn’t an easy decision. We poured years of work and love into Faeland, and we want to make sure it arrives at a time when it can receive the attention and care it deserves.”

The studio has promised to announce a new release date “very soon,” but for now, they’re focused on ensuring that Faeland gets the spotlight it deserves.

In another significant move, Aeternum Game Studios has announced that their game Aeterna Lucis, which was also slated for a September release, is now pushed to 2026. The developers acknowledged the overwhelming presence of Silksong and the impact it would have on their game’s visibility:

“After the announcement of Silksong, we are fully aware that our game wouldn’t have the visibility it deserves. Competing with a phenomenon of that scale would not only be unfair to our team’s effort, but also to you, the community, who expect to experience this adventure under the best possible conditions.”

The studio is using the additional time to refine their game further, ensuring that players get a polished experience when it finally releases. They expressed their gratitude towards Team Cherry, the creators of Silksong, acknowledging their contribution to the metroidvania genre:

“Instead of rivalry, what we feel is gratitude: thanks to them, the metroidvania genre is more alive than ever and, in fact, they were one of the main inspirations that led us to create Aeterna Noctis and the entire saga now in development.”

Originally envisioned as an expansion for the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight, Silksong has evolved into a full standalone game that fans have been eagerly awaiting for years. The developers have reassured fans that the long wait has not been due to development hell; instead, the success of the first game allowed them the luxury of time to craft something truly special.

During Gamescom 2025, players have been lining up to get their hands on Silksong, and the buzz is palpable. Reviewers who have had the chance to play it are already raving about the game, with one commentator stating:

“Hollow Knight: Silksong appears to be exactly what we all should have expected: a strong, well-designed, visually lovely game that carries forward the aesthetic and design philosophies of the original with thoughtful, if not earth-shattering, updates.”

— Steve Watts

With the recent delay of GTA 6 to 2026, it seems that Silksong has taken center stage as the must-play title of 2025. Developers are scrambling to adjust their own timelines to avoid getting overshadowed by this gaming juggernaut.

As fans gear up for the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong, other titles are making strategic moves to ensure they get their time in the spotlight. The excitement is building, and with each passing day, we get closer to the launch of a game that promises to deliver an unforgettable experience.
